Before we recommend replacement, we ask whether repair makes more sense. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't, but you deserve an honest answer either way, not one shaped by what generates the bigger invoice.

What we repair

• Misted or failed sealed units, the glass unit has failed, not the frame. In most cases the frame can stay and just the glass replaced, at a fraction of the cost of a full window replacement

• Dropped or misaligned doors; adjustment, hinge replacement or new multipoint locking mechanisms can often restore a door to perfect working order

• Broken or worn handles and hardware; hinges, handles, letter boxes, locking mechanisms. Small parts, big difference.

When replacement makes sense

We'll tell you honestly when it does. If a frame is beyond economic repair, structurally compromised, or so thermally inefficient that the energy saving from replacement would justify the cost, we'll say so. But we won't use that as a default answer when repair is the right one.

Every window frame that goes to landfill represents raw materials, manufacturing energy and transport emissions. Repairing what exists, where it's genuinely viable, is better for the planet and usually better for your wallet. It's not the most profitable conversation for us to have. We have it anyway.
